About
I currently work at the Universidad Internacional de la Rioja(Spain), where I'm Associate Professor. I am teaching and helping also in the Master de Antropología de Iberoamérica MAI at the University of Salamanca. I defended my PhD in Iberoamerican Social Anthropology (University of Salamanca). My doctoral thesis explored three different Afro-Brazilian religions (Candomble, Umbanda, Catimbó-Jurema) in Recife, Brazil. I analysed ritual performance and theory, social cohesion and spiritual leadership in three different communities and cults. Previously, I gained my undergraduate degrees in Social Anthropology from the University of Sussex and Sociology from the University of Salamanca.
My research interests lie principally in the field Afro-American religions and include possession, Iberian Medieval witchcraft, relation with New Religious Movements, health, shamanism, etc. In Castilla-Leon I research about gypsies and counterurbanisation.
